Organizers of this year’s Bloody Scotland convention, to be held in Stirling from September 11 to 13, have announced their shortlist of nominees for the fourth annual Bloody Scotland Crime Book of the Year award (formerly known as the Deanston Scottish Crime Book of the Year). Those contenders, said to have been “chosen by an independent panel of readers from a longlist of 55 books,” are as follows:
• Paths of the Dead, by Lin Anderson (Pan)
• DM for Murder, by Matt Bendoris (Contraband)
• Dead Girl Walking, by Chris Brookmyre (Little, Brown)
• Thin Air, by Ann Cleeves (Macmillan)
• The Ghosts of Altona, by Craig Russell (Quercus)
• Death Is a Welcome Guest, by Louise Welsh (John Murray)
The winner will be declared during a “gala dinner” to be held on Saturday, September 12, as part of the Bloody Scotland festival program. This year’s prize recipient will receive £1,000 and nationwide promotion in Waterstones bookshops. In the past, this commendation has gone to Peter May’s Entry Island (2014), Malcolm Mackay’s How a Gunman Says Goodbye (2013), and Charles Cumming’s A Foreign Country (2012).
